We have had a very quiet summer here in Cork ... mainly because Cork is a very quiet place anyway. I have been working hard, however, to finish the latest Jim Rook epic Swimmer in which Jim comes face-to-face with a particularly vengeful urban legend. The manuscript has now been delivered to Severn House for UK/US publication and to my French and Polish publishers Albatros.

Rook IV: Snowman was published in Poland in June and went straight to No.12 in the bestseller lists ... so thank you to all of my Polish readers!!

The date for the presentation of the Prix Masterton in Paris has been put back to October in order to coincide with a fantasy festival there. More details of that later. I am a little disappointed about this postponement because I was looking forward to visiting Paris this summer and staying at our favorite hotel Le Crillon on the Place de la Concorde.

I still have strong hopes for Rook as a TV series ... my Hollywood agent is putting a great deal of work into a presentation, which so far has been very favourably received. Rook was originally written as a concept for TV and in spite of the fact that the networks are now deluged with series such as Charmed and Buffy and Angel, I believe that Rook is distinct enough to find its own place. However ... I am just waiting for the results of the latest pitch.

I am now working on a novella for Richard Chizmar at Cemetery Dance and it's developing into something very different and interesting. Then I shall be getting into my dark thriller set in Ireland for which I have already started my research ... interviewing the Garda and visiting locations.

My Cork accent is improving (so I'm told) and I am learning the words to "The Old Bog Road Before It Was Tarred" so you can see that I am becoming very assimilated.
